The Barbarians Biography

Formed in 1964 in Provincetown, Massachusetts, USA, the Barbarians consisted of Jeff Morris, Jerry Causi, Bruce Benson and "Moulty" Molten. They made their recording debut with "Hey Little Bird", issued on the local Joy Records, prior to signing a contract with Laurie Records. In 1965 the Barbarians enjoyed a minor US hit with "Are You A Boy Or Are You A Girl?", a brilliant garage-styled single about long hair fashions. It was succeeded by "Moulty", a monologue from the group's one-armed drummer about his disability, interspersed with a call-and-response chorus. His story enshrined forever, Molten left the Barbarians in 1967. The remaining trio moved to San Francisco, California, USA, where they formed Black Pearl.
