T.N.T. Tribble Biography
5 August 1921, Ferrel, Pennsylvania, USA. Tribble took up the drums upon moving to Washington, DC in the late 30s and carried his musical studies through his army service until his demobilization in 1946, when he joined his brother Floyd's band, the Treble Clefs, and later formed his own group. In 1949, Tribble joined Frank Motley's Motley Crew who were signed to the local DC label as "name" act and houseband. Their session tapes were then leased or sold to other record companies, and releases resulted on Gotham and other independent labels. Tribble had records on Gotham both in his own right and as singer/drummer with the Motley Crew, as well as separate sessions recorded for RCA Victor in 1951. In 1952 he split from Motley and DC and became an exclusive Gotham artist until 1955 when he embarked upon a lengthy tour of the eastern seaboard and Cuba, recording for Miami's Chart label in 1957, Atlantic's East-West subsidiary in 1960, and the tiny Frandy label in 1961. He has managed to eke out a fairly satisfying living as a live act since the late 50s and continues to lead a rock 'n' roll and soul revival revue in Washington, DC.
