Ric Ocasek Biography

Richard Otcasek, 23 March 1949, Baltimore, Maryland, USA. The former leader of the Cars, Ocasek's songs bridged a gap between punk and AOR on the band's six highly successful albums. When the band broke up at the end of the 80s Ocasek turned his hand to record production, with much greater success. His main credits include Weezer's excellent self-titled debut in 1994, Bad Religion's The Gray Race in 1996, D Generation's No Lunch, Guided By Voices' Do The Collapse, and albums by Nada Surf, No Doubt, Lloyd Cole. His solo recordings have been disappointing. In 2003, after a number of highly respected production credits, Ocasek was appointed as senior VP of A&R at Elektra Records.
