Paris Hilton Biography
17 February 1981, New York City, New York, USA. An heiress to Richard Hilton's hotel and real estate empire, this American socialite dominated the celebrity pages of the media in the mid-00s. Hilton's initial notoriety centred around her relentless partying with younger sister Nicky on the New York club scene, and her appearance on the arms of a revolving cast list of stars from the world of film, music and sport. Her appearance alongside her then best friend and fellow socialite Nicole Richie in the FOX reality television series The Simple Life, first aired in December 2003, helped raise her profile, a calculated ploy considering both women came over as ridiculous, pampered rich girls in the programme. At the same time a notorious sex tape involving Hilton and her boyfriend Rick Salomon was leaked onto the Internet. Hilton's other activities during this period included lucrative modelling assignments and a number of bit-part roles in Hollywood. Her most notable career development came in 2005 when she announced she was planning to release an album on the specially created label Heiress Records, a division of Warner Brothers Records. Writers and producers hauled in to help turn Hilton into a pop star included Kara DioGuardi, Scott Storch, Greg Wells, and Jane Wiedlin. The first single to emerge from the sessions was the reggae-inflected "Stars Are Blind", which reached the US Top 20 in June 2006. Her debut album, Paris, gained a number of grudging thumbs up from critics desperate for a train wreck, but presented instead with a solid collection of contemporary dance pop.
