Michael Delaney Dowd Jnr., 11 August 1925, Chicago, Illinois, USA, d. 11 August 2006, Miami, Florida, USA. Douglas was the host of an American television talk show in 1966, when he recorded the saccharine ballad, ‘The Men In My Little Girl’s Life’, which reached number 6 on the charts. Douglas started his career as a singer, on a cruise ship outside of Chicago. In the mid-40s, after a stint in the Armed Forces and at college, he sang with Kay Kyser on radio and on recordings. After leaving Kyser, who had retired, Douglas’ career did not go anywhere in the 50s; but in 1961 he was hired by a Cleveland, Ohio television station to host the afternoon talk show which bore his name. As his local popularity accelerated, Douglas’ show became syndicated nationally, and in 1965 Epic Records signed him. He recorded four albums for the label, but only the one single was a hit and Douglas’ recording career ended. He continued to host his television programme until 1980, during which time he interviewed seven US presidents.
