Linda Eder Biography

6 February 1961, Brainerd, Minnesota, USA. Judging from her recording output, vocalist Eder is equally at home singing "contemporary standards" as she is tackling musical theatre. She was introduced to both classical and popular music at an early age, by her parents who were both singers, but it was not until high school that Eder discovered the singer that would inspire her vocally the most, Barbra Streisand. Eder soon began developing her own style, self-described as "Broadway and popular style singing with classical influences.' Not long after her high school graduation, she began to hone her singing talent at local nightclubs, which led to a spot on the popular US television show Star Search, where Eder took the top spot and beat out the competition for a staggering 12 weeks. It was during her stay in Hollywood while taping the show when she met her future husband, composer Frank Wildhorn. He was working on the musical Jekyll & Hyde at the time, which Eder soon became involved with herself, landing the role of Lucy, a nightclub singer. Eder's first appearance on record was on 1990"s Highlights From Jekyll & Hyde. A self-titled debut album for RCA Records followed. By the mid-90s, Jekyll & Hyde had become a runaway smash on Broadway, where Eder earned rave reviews for her nightly renditions of show-stopping ballads such as "Someone Like You", "In His Eyes" and "A New Life". Despite her busy schedule with Jekyll & Hyde, Eder was able to sustain her solo career, issuing a string of releases for Atlantic Records.
