15 August 1944, Alabama, USA. Knight had a Top 30 hit in both the USA and UK with ‘I’ve Been Lonely For So Long’, a light, but deceptively memorable single. This 1972 release on the Stax Records label was the singer’s only major success, although ‘I Betcha Didn’t Know That’ (1975) and ‘The Old Songs’ (1981) reached the minor R&B placings. In the interim, however, the artist had written and produced singles for Anita Ward, including her international smash ‘Ring My Bell’, and had formed his own Junta and Park Place labels in the late 70s and mid-80s, respectively.
