Eastmountainsouth Biography

The folk rock duo Eastmountainsouth comprises singers Kat Maslich (Roanoke, Virginia, USA) and Peter Adams (b. Birmingham, Alabama, USA), who share songwriting and instrumental duties. Both come from musical families, and travelled throughout the USA (and in Adams’ case, Europe, as well) to pursue careers in music. Their paths crossed in Los Angeles, California, when Maslich auditioned as a singer for a television spot Adams was producing music for. Their initial meeting did not amount to much, but when a friend of Adams brought to his attention that Maslich was performing her music at a nearby venue, he attended. As a result, she sang on a country demo Adams was working on, and the two realized they shared similar musical tastes and songwriting styles. Additionally, there was no denying how exceptionally well their vocals blended together when they performed live, resulting in the abandonment of their solo careers, and the founding of Eastmountainsouth. One of their demos caught the attention of Robbie Robertson, who signed the duo to a recording contract with DreamWorks Records in autumn 2001. The duo’s debut, eastmountainsouth, was issued in 2003. A sweet blend of folk and country, the album received a warm critical reception.
