Donna Allen Biography

Key West, and raised in Tampa, Florida, USA. Allen first made it into the public eye as a cheerleader for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers football team. Signed to 21 Records in 1986 she immediately hit the charts with ‘Serious’ (number 5 R&B, number 21 pop). ‘Serious’ was also a big hit in the UK, reaching number 8 on the chart. Her subsequent chart entries, ‘Satisfied’ (number 14 R&B) and ‘Sweet Somebody’ (number 55 R&B), both in 1987, ended her chart success in the USA. In 1988, on the Oceana label, she recorded an album, Heaven On Earth, from which was taken her biggest single, ‘Joy And Pain’ (number 3 R&B), in 1989. In the UK, ‘Joy And Pain’ reached number 10 on the chart. She charted again in 1989 with ‘Can We Talk’ (number 43 R&B), but all her big hits were behind her. In 1994 Allen had a flurry of success with a dance single called ‘Real’, for Epic Records.
