Dan Seals Biography

8 February 1948, McCamey, Texas, USA. Leaving successful pop duo England Dan And John Ford Coley was, at first, a disastrous career move for Dan Seals. His management left him with unpaid tax bills and mounting debts and he lost his house, his van, and his money. He says, "I was bankrupt, separated and living at friends' places. My kids were with friends. It was a real bad time". Furthermore, the two albums that he made for Atlantic Records as a solo artist, Stones and Harbinger, had little impact. However, Kyle Lehning, who produced his hits with England Dan And John Ford Coley, never lost faith and helped to establish him on the US country charts with "Everybody's Dream Girl" in 1983. Further country hits followed and he had a US number 1 hit with "Meet Me In Montana", a duet with Marie Osmond, in 1985. Seals then had an extraordinary run of nine consecutive US number 1 country singles: the dancing "Bop", the rodeo story "Everything That Glitters (Is Not Gold)", "You Still Move Me", "I Will Be There", "Three Time Loser", the wedding song "One Friend", "Addicted" and "Big Wheels In The Moonlight", many of which he wrote himself. Two further number 1 hits in 1990 included a reworking of soul singer Sam Cooke's "Good Times". Won't Be Blue Anymore sold half a million copies in the USA, while another big-selling record, On The Front Line, included an exquisite duet with Emmylou Harris, "Lullaby'. Seals signed to Warner Brothers Records in 1991, but Walking The Wire was a commercial failure and he has since concentrated on touring. The two volumes of In A Quiet Room feature acoustic versions of Seals" best-known songs.
