Candlebox Biography
Formed by Kevin Martin (9 April 1969; vocals), Peter Klett (b. 26 December 1969; guitar), Bardi Martin (bass) and Scott Mercado (b. 11 November 1964; drums), this alternative rock band burst onto the US music scene in the mid-90s. They signed to Madonna's Maverick label and, buoyed by the media interest that accompanies the singer's every move, Candlebox soon found themselves a major success. Both "Far Behind" and "You" were hits in the singles chart and in 1995 sales of Candlebox reached three million copies in the USA. Candlebox was co-produced by Kelly Gray and revealed a band happy to explore territory somewhere between traditional pop-metal and Seattle-styled grunge. This was an assured debut and one that placed the band in the anticipated difficult second album category. Lucy was, unfortunately, a major disappointment to fans and critics. Ex-Pearl Jam drummer Dave Krusen replaced Mercado shortly before the recording of a back-to-basics third album, produced by Ron Nevison.
