19 November 1973, Savannah, Georgia, USA. Contemporary country singer-songwriter Currington made a notable impact on the national charts with his second album, 2005’s Doin’ Somethin’ Right. Raised in Rincon, Georgia, Currington’s early ambitions of pursuing a singing career led him through a number of talent shows while still at high school. He moved to Nashville after completing his education and held down a number of day jobs while attempting to break into the city’s music scene through club work. It was while working as a personal trainer that Currington met a contact who helped him acquire demo work. A short-term publishing contract did not pan out as he hoped, but a writing partnership with Mark Wills’ producer Carson Chamberlain eventually led to a major label contract with Mercury Records.

The tale of domestic alcohol abuse chronicled on the singer’s debut, ‘Walk A Little Straighter’, had its roots in Currington’s experiences as a child (his father died of a drink-related disease). The single reached the country Top 10 in 2003 and was followed by the Top 5 hit ‘I Got A Feelin’’. The following year Currington duetted with Shania Twain on ‘Party For Two’, a track taken from the Canadian superstar’s Greatest Hits album. Currington built on his heightened profile with an excellent second album, Doin’ Somethin’ Right, released at the end of 2005. This slick country pop collection’s highlights included a highly catchy duet with Michael McDonald on ‘She’s Got A Way With Me’ and a gritty update of Kenny Rogers’ classic country hit ‘Lucille’. The album climbed to number 2 on the country charts and reached number 11 on the mainstream listings.
