Bertie Higgins Biography

1946, Tarpon Springs, Florida, USA. Bertie Higgins is best known for his 1981 soft-rock hit "Key Largo", a Top 10 single. Higgins secured his first professional engagement playing drums in the back-up band of singer Tommy Roe, the Roemans, in 1964. He stayed with them for four years and toured widely. He first recorded with that band in 1964, for the ABC-Paramount label, but none of the group's singles charted. After the Roemans split up in 1968, Higgins returned to his home-town and began writing songs. It was not until the early 80s that he found success with "Key Largo', inspired by the film starring Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall. The single was recorded for the small Kat Family label and reached number 8 in April 1982, nearly six months after first charting. Higgins" follow-up single, "Just Another Day In Paradise", missed the Top 40 and he has been absent from the charts since then.
