B5 Biography

US R&B boy band from Atlanta, Georgia comprising five members of the Breeding family: Dustin (8 October 1988, St. Petersburg, Florida, USA), Kelly (b. 27 February 1989, Liberal, Kansas, USA), Patrick (b. 19 September 1990, Liberal, Kansas, USA), Carnell (b. 8 November 1991, Bridgeport, Connecticut, USA), and Bryan (b. 14 October 1994, Liberal, Kansas, USA). The four elder brothers began performing at the end of the 90s as the TNT Boyz and followed the usual route for budding child stars, playing at talent shows and festivals around their native Georgia and further afield. The TNT Boyz changed their name to B5 (Breeding 5) when younger brother Bryan joined the line-up at the start of the new millennium, the title an obvious nod to forebears the Jackson Five. The quintet’s energetic live show and snappy vocal harmonies earned them a number of prime support slots with visiting R&B and rap artists, and in 2003 their management team landed the group a recording contract with P. Diddy’s Bad Boy Entertainment label. B5 worked with leading producers including Diddy, Rodney Jerkins and Ryan Leslie on their debut album. The lead single, a cover version of the Jackson Five’s ‘All I Do Is Think Of You’ entitled ‘All I Do’, failed to set the charts alight when it was released at the start of 2005. The group’s self-titled debut album enjoyed greater commercial success and reached the US Top 20 during that summer.
